Print to your mobile printer

When you add a mobile printer to your mobile office, you can print from handhelds, notebooks, and camera phones to produce photo-quality prints on the road.

To print to an HP mobile printer from a notebook PC you will need:

  • Support for Bluetooth either built into the notebook or added later using a PCMCIA card for wireless printing.

  • A USB or parallel port for wired printing.

  • The free HP Mobile Print Driver for Windows installed on your PC.

To print to an HP mobile printer from a Pocket PC handheld you will need:

  • An Infrared (IR) eye or support for Bluetooth (built in or added via an expansion pack or card).

  • The free HP Mobile Printing for Pocket PC software installed on your handheld.

Regardless of what device you print from, setting up mobile printing is simple. Choose a printer, a connection (wireless or wired), and the right utility to support printing and you can begin printing immediately.

Print on available printers while you are traveling

Working with partners and clients at their offices is a common practice in a successful business. To make it easier to print the documents you need on printers within someone else's office, HP offers simple solutions for both notebooks and handhelds:

  • To print from a WiFi-enabled notebook, use the HP Jetdirect wireless print server. Simply connect the print server to the printer with a USB cable to add wireless printing capabilities to the printer and use your notebook's wireless connection to print. When you are ready to go, the print server is small enough to slip into your briefcase.

  • To print from a Bluetooth-enabled PocketPC handheld, connect the HP JetDirect wireless printer adapter to the printer and it will support Bluetooth printing. Send your files to the printer and carry the adapter with you when you are done.

  • Both of these solutions allow you to access networked printers without putting the network at risk or needing to gain network access.

Integrate printing into your wireless network

To integrate printing into your wireless network you will need:

  • Support for wireless connectivity: IR, Bluetooth, or WiFi. Learn more about your options.

  • Wireless-enabled computers, notebooks, and handhelds: Many new computers come with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity built in; for older computers, adding it is as simple as installing a wireless card.

  • Printers that support wireless communications.

Several HP mobile printers come with support for wireless protocols built in. However, if your printer doesn't have built-in wireless support, a wireless print server can make just about any wired printer into a wireless printer.

HP offers a collection of internal print servers designed specifically to work with its extended line of printers.

Because internal print servers are designed with a particular printer or series in mind, they fit neatly into the printer without adding to the printer's total footprint. They also don't need their own power supply.

To extend wireless networking to your non-HP printers, choose one of HP's external print servers.

An external print server does increase a printer's footprint a bit, but all of HP's print servers have a low-profile shape and a built-in clip so you can minimize the impact they have on the printer's overall size.
