 HP ProtectTools Security Manager is a security platform for business notebooks and desktops comprising of an extensible client security console that delivers enhanced security capabilities through add-on software modules.
Apart from an HP-unique BIOS configuration module, HP ProtectTools' features include a Credential Manager that provides multifactor authentication support as a standard feature on many HP notebooks and select desktop configurations. It also provides a single sign-on support, which stores user credentials for web sites, applications and protected network resources. It automatically defines additional security for registered applications, such as re-authentication.
Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools protects sensitive data with enhanced Windows encryption (TPM) and the Personal Secure Drive (a virtual drive protected by TPM). Smart Card readers allow only authorised users to access PCs, and will disallow access if the hard drive is mistakenly sold without first wiping the information contained on it.
