Teaching at Japanese universities, we found the available textbooks from the big publishers didn't exactly fit the needs of our students. Thus, we developed our own material to use with classes.
When one University president suggested we put it all together as a folio so they could pay us for the work, our business began. Starting with our Windows 3.11 desktop PC and a HP560J printer, we had a book ready in a couple of months, and the students loved it. Other teachers were impressed enough to want to use the text in their classes.
Orders came in. Still not ready to take the book to the big publishers and enjoying the ease, flexibility, speed and professional results the printers gave us we decided to continue with small tailored editions. We got a new PC, and a HP694C printer, then another PC and a HP6L laser. All three printers ran well over their duty cycles, sometimes for sixty hours straight, but they got the job done without drama.
Now we're on to our thirteenth PC and sixth printer (a HP1015, which we love). We relocated to Australia recently but are continuing with our work from here. Our next printer will be an HP colour laser, as the business continues to grow.
Without the ability to produce great quality printed material, our business would never have started let alone flourished in a small way. Thank you HP, for allowing our teaching ideas to come to publication.
