HP Smart Office Asia Pacific Press Conference

Panel Discussion Transcript

Topic : "Connect. Collborate. Compete"

Intercontinental Hotel @ Financial District, Beijing

October 20, 2005

Introduction

Host: HP’s Smart Office has seen significant growth over the past few years, and is expected to have equally rosy prospects in the future. In addition, there are a lot of measures that can help the adoption of technology to promote the better development of small & medium businesses (SMBs) in Asia. This panel discussion focuses on connecting and collaborating in order to be able to compete better. Only companies with the strength and the capacity for innovation can gain a competitive edge in the SMB market. So how can we improve our collaboration? What is effective and what is ineffective? And what kind of roles can HP play in such areas? How can HP offer value-added competitive advantages to SMBs? I hope the participants today - that include a key local government official from the SMB Department of China’s National Development and Reform Commission and HP customers and partners from different parts of the Asia Pacific region - will address these and other related issues through the course of the panel themed “Connect, Collaborate and Compete”. Thank you!

Now, let me introduce the members attending this discussion. From right to left, we have Lin Zhaoxu, general manager of Beijing Forus HuaXing Computer Technology Co., Ltd; Wang Jianxiang, Deputy Director-General of the SMB Department of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Dennis Mark, HP’s Vice President of SMB Marketing. Next is Paul Lin, one of HP’s business partners, Mr Li Weizhong from Beijing Ladder Company, and finally there is Ryan Chioh, Executive Director of FarEastFlora.com. The core focus of this discussion is related to SMBs in Asia. So, let’s begin.

I want to start by asking Dennis Mark, who has been with HP for a long period of time, what is the greatest challenge facing the development of SMBs in the Asian-Pacific region?
