Faster, stronger, smarter – we all love new tech gear until we have to pay the power bill.

Today, your business is often caught in a no-win situation: powerful technology will boost your capabilities but in doing so it will consume a huge amount of energy.

As energy prices continue to climb and data centres grow denser and hotter, power and cooling are ongoing critical issues.

Whether you’re the manager of a fast growing data centre with a spiralling energy bill, or an administrator looking to understand your business’ power consumption, you need tools that help you accurately monitor your energy consumption and reduce server running costs.

Reins of power

If your business is looking to lower power costs and improve capacity management, it will welcome the arrival of HP’s new Insight Control Environment management suite for ProLiant ML/DL servers.

Including the HP Insight Power Manager (IPM), an application plug-in to the HP Systems Insight Manager, your business can lower its energy consumption with its integrated power monitoring and management features.

Insight Power Manager also supports all HP ProLiant servers with a power meter – including the majority of latest G5 servers and c-Class blades.

When using Insight Power Manager, the Insight Control Environment provides centralised control of multiple-server power consumption. It can help you plan your business’ power usage more effectively, maximise resources and reduce power outages.

Cooler alternative

Built on ProLiant Power Regulator Technology, IPM has enhanced server energy controls that can reduce the amount of power and cooling required for ProLiant servers.

Power Regulator for HP ProLiant servers is a power management feature that builds upon Intel’s® Demand-Based Switching and AMD’s® PowerNow!™ technology. The Power Regulator automatically adjusts the server’s processor power usage and performance to match the workload of the Central Processing Unit.

Key benefits: HP Insight Power Manager

Monitors actual power consumption and thermal output

  • Enables scalable policy-based power management

  • Reduces server power and cooling overhead across the data centre

  • Helps increase facility compute capacity.
